How One Theatre Teacher Gave 120 Students a Lead Role Experience—In Just One Month
Like many theatre educators, Andy faced a familiar challenge:
Traditional full-length productions only offer lead roles for a handful of students—leaving many without the opportunity to fully develop as performers. With over 100 students in his program, there simply wasn’t a way to give each student a meaningful lead-role experience.
After the spring musical, Andy was looking for a way to keep students engaged—without the intensity of another full production.
Then he discovered Grow With Shows! He used our short, classroom-ready Training Musicals for a student-led, end-of-year project.
He had the students break into small groups and choose musicals based on cast size, then gave them full ownership of their shows—which they directed, choreographed, and performed during the final weeks of school. Andy shifted into a coaching role while students led the process.
